UMTON turpentine (rectified/refined turpentine) is the most commonly used medium for thinning oil paints. It is suitable for direct paint thinning, thinning certain varnishes and solvents (not fixatives!), and cleaning brushes and tools. If necessary, it can also be used to thin linseed oil or other vegetable oils.
